Overview

Six stores, one template

Marlowe’s six homeware stores had grown organically: six ISPs, six password schemes, tills sharing Wi-Fi with shoppers. Head office couldn’t see stock systems, and every fault meant a phone call to whoever set that store up years ago.

We designed one store template — firewall, switching, APs, tills VLAN, guest portal — then rolled it out identically across all six sites with a site-to-site VPN back to HQ.

Challenge

Trade while we rebuild

Stores trade seven days a week and tills can’t go dark mid-Saturday. Each site had different cabling, different ISP contract dates and a different back-room cupboard. The rollout had to be night work, store by store, with a rollback plan in the van every time.

Approach

Pilot, clone, repeat

  • 01 — Flagship store rebuilt first as the pilot; configs hardened from real trade.
  • 02 — Template cloned to five more sites — same VLANs, same SSIDs, same portal.
  • 03 — Tills isolated on their own VLAN with priority queuing at peak.
  • 04 — All six adopted into one cloud dashboard HQ can actually read.
